RF Ministry of Transport and the state corporation Rosautodor are discussing the prospect of construction of a new straight line highway from the Remote Western by-pass of Krasnodar to the Crimean bridge.

The route of the new toll-free high-speed highway should be to the south of the existing motorway A-289 Krasnodar-Slavyansk-on-Kuban-Temryuk and to the north of highway A-146 Krasnodar-Novorossiysk evolving into highway A-290 Novorossiysk-Kerch. At present these are two main roads leading from the capital of Kuban to Kerch bridge. The extension of the new motorway should be 148km, that is two kilometers less than the highway to the bridge via Slavyansk-on-Kuban. It is planned that the new highway could be built by the year 2022.
